Kim Baker is a renowned figure in American motorsports, celebrated for his pioneering role in Corvette racing and engineering excellence. His career took off in 1984 with a national SCCA championship win driving a new C4 Corvette, setting the stage for a decade of dominance in endurance racing.
As the founder of Bakeracing, Baker quickly made a name in the SCCA Pro Endurance Series, securing multiple championships, including five race wins and the overall title in 1987 without a single mechanical DNF. He was a trusted development partner for Corvette Engineering and Goodyear, conducting critical tire, powertrain, and durability tests. Baker's technical acumen also led to innovations in performance lubricant testing and brake materials.
By the late 1980s, Baker’s impact was so significant that he was asked to step back from competition to support the Corvette Challenge through car and tire testing, providing vital setup data to other teams. He was honored with the international Bilstein Madonna Award for Racing Excellence and named one of the "Ten Men Who Made a Difference in Corvette History" by Road & Track in 1991.
Beyond road racing, Baker pushed boundaries in open-road racing with victories at high-speed events like the Nevada 100 and the Silver State Classic, driving a street-legal ZR1 Corvette to speeds exceeding 200 MPH. He also transitioned to stock car racing in the late '90s, building and piloting a Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the NASCAR Busch North Series, culminating in a win at Watkins Glen in 1998.
Today, Kim Baker continues to influence the automotive world through Vintage Racecar Sales, blending decades of racing insight with a passion for high-performance engineering.
