Joseph Fuller, from Westport, CT, has had a lifelong passion for automobiles, a fascination sparked by his family’s deep-rooted involvement with cars. His grandfather played a key role, participating in the historic Prague to Paris race of 1931 with Bohumil Turek as the driver, piloting an Aerocar. With his father, uncles, and other relatives always working on cars, Joseph grew up in a hands-on, mechanically inclined environment.
Trained as an architect with a strong sense of design, Joseph views the lines and mechanics of vehicles through a unique lens. This perspective is further honed through the restoration projects he undertakes in his small Bridgeport shop. Whether cars, trucks, or motorcycles, his restorations range from quick seven-month projects to years-long efforts, particularly when working on post-war European models. One of his most recent projects is an Austin Healey 100 BN2. His hands-on approach also makes him a skilled judge at various concours and car shows, including events in New York City, Scarsdale, Greenwich, and beyond.
A member of the Vintage Sports Car Club of America (VSCCA), Joseph not only appreciates the "Art of the Automobile" but also participates in historic vintage racing and hill climbs. These experiences allow him to gain firsthand knowledge of how vintage cars perform, an attribute he values deeply. Joseph has a particular fondness for observing car designs and mechanics, as it allows him to connect intimately with the craftsmanship by recognizing and appreciating the “machine in the garden” and contours of the body parts and panels.
This keen eye for detail enhances his understanding of both form and function, deepening his appreciation for the artistry of automobiles.
